Co-operation network was founded in 1985, when the advisory committee of North Finland Seaports held the first collaborative meeting.

The first operational instruction was validated in 1988.

After that the operational instruction has been first revised in 2004 and totally renewed in 2011.

In 2011 the name of the advisory committee was changed and the new name North Finland Seaports was taken in use.
